Moro Bay State Park Upcoming programs

Join a park interpreter on this guided hike where we will use all our senses to explore the natural world of Moro Bay State Park. Participants might want to bring a bottle of water and wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Bug spray is recommended.

Pedal Boat Fun
Join a park interpreter and other park guests as we get out and enjoy the water on Moro Bay. Take this opportunity to test you pedal boat skills and stamina as you compete against others in a pedal boat race.

3:30pm – 4:00pm
Pebbles and Pinecones
Join a park interpreter for this fun activity where we will learn how to make art out of common objects found in nature.

Friday September 1st, 2017

9:00a.m. – 11:00a.m.
‘Yaking in the Bay
Explore the intersection of three counties and three bodies of water on this guided kayak tour. Wading birds, turtles, and belted kingfishers are likely critters to spot on the shoreline. Kids ages 12 and under must ride tandem with an adult: younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. A small amount of prior kayaking/canoeing experience is recommended, but not required.  Fee includes use of kayak, paddle, and lifejacket. Participation is limited so call ahead or stop by the visitor center to make reservations.
Admission $14 adults, $7 kids ages 6-12, younger than 6 = free

Story of a Butterfly
Explore the story of a butterfly’s life as it grows from something small into something beautiful and learn why they are important here at our park, as well as in your own backyard.

Scavenger Hunt
This fun seeking adventure has you exploring the park in search of items from our list. See how many you can find for the most points. The winning team receives a prize. Meet at the visitor center picnic area.

Saturday September 2nd, 2017

Pontoon Safari
Hop aboard a relaxing cruise through a cypress-filled bay. Wading birds, basking turtles, and fishing holes await. Learn a little about the history of Moro Bay and the Ouachita River while you kick-back and enjoy the ride. Seating is limited so please pre-register by calling or stopping by the visitor center.

It’s a Reptile World
Come join in and explore the world of some of Moro Bay State Park’s most common reptiles, and have an opportunity to meet some of them up-close.

Pinecone Birdfeeders
Are you enjoying all the colorful songbirds that make Moro Bay State Park home? Join a park interpreter and discover how you can attract these same birds to your own backyard by using common household objects to make a birdfeeder.

Eat-A-Bug, If you Dare!
This is the real deal. If you think you are up to the task of chomping down on a larva or swallowing a cricket, then you want to experience this program. Learn more about how other cultures use bugs as a good source of food and how they may be used to help you survive if lost in the wilderness. All who eat a bug earn a card and the right to tell the story.

Vultures! Natures Garbage Disposals?
Join a park interpreter for this program and discover what an important role Vultures play in our lives and our ecosystem.
