Whopping Paddlefish

In case you missed this on the AGFC Facebook page last week, AGFC biologists Kyle Swallow and Kris Nault hooked this 65-pound paddlefish on the White River, below Bull Shoals Dam. This fish, along with several other warm water species, were observed while the biologists were monitoring temperatures below the dam with the floodgates open. Swallow said there was also a report of a 50-pound striped bass being caught near Gaston’s White River Resort, just a few miles downstream from the dam. Norfork Lake tailwater has also seen a heavy influx of warm water species due to prolonged floodgate releases. The AGFC encourages anglers to fish the tailwaters and harvest these warm water fish, as they can prey upon and compete with trout. Daily creel limits and length requirements for these warm water species fall under the statewide regulations and can be found in the 2017 Arkansas Fishing Guidebook.
