Outdoor Expo has new contests

EL DORADO—The SouthArk Outdoor Expo, presented by the South Arkansas Community College Foundation, as usual will bring with it a number of contests when it returns on Sept. 10, but this year there are some new ones.
Making their debuts at this year’s Expo are a car show and a talent show.
The talent show is for amateur performers ages 8 to 17, in three different divisions. An initial round of auditions will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 27; finalists in each age category will compete publicly on the day of the Expo. There is no entry fee. Winners will receive trophies.
The car show provides trophies by vehicle class and is $25 to enter, with the option of entering additional vehicles for $5. Entries will be accepted up through 8 a.m. on the day of the Expo; early registrants receive a free dash plaque.
The rib cook-off, with its $5,000 in prizes including a $2,000 top prize, returns with categories for ribs, other smoked foods, team spirt and this year, rig construction. Entry fees are $100 for the rib contest, plus additional fees for the other contests. Deadline for entry is Sept. 2.
The outdoor photography contest includes a $200 best of show prize, and $100 top prizes in each of the four individual categories (Flora, Wildlife, People in the Outdoors, Scenes) along with second- and third-place cash prizes. The entry fee is $5 per photograph, with a deadline of Sept. 7.
The annual Hero 5K Walk-Run provides a $100 prize to the top overall male and female finisher and ribbons to other winners by age bracket. It costs $25 to enter through Aug. 26; $30 afterward.
The SouthArk Outdoor Expo, held at the El Dorado Conference Center on Sept. 10, will include vendors, exhibitors, live music and attractions. For more information about each of these contests, including entry forms and payment details, see www.southarkexpo.com.
